2/9/2018 The four largest Swedish banks SEB, Swedbank, Nordea and Handelsbanken today announces that they together with Danske Bank, DNB and OP Financial Group will investigate the possibilities to create a Nordic payment infrastructure with joint products.
The goal is to create the world’s first payment area for national and cross border payments in several currencies.
As an international leader, Bankgirot has guaranteed and digitized the Swedish payment market for nearly 60 years. This gives us good working ground to continued contribution to that development in the entire Nordics, says Jeanette Jäger, CEO, Bankgirot.
Stated in a press release, the banks claims to have their starting point in open access and common European standards with the ambition that the joint infrastructure will contribute to increased competition between Nordic payment suppliers.
This is great news for Bankgirot. Our customer’s initiative is completely in line with our strategy for the company’s development in the Nordics; the well advanced project “Future payments” and our concept “Open Payments” introduced last fall, says Jäger.
